PPF Calculator
Fifteen years of patient, tax-free compounding — see what yearly PPF deposits become, year by year.
Slow, then unmistakable.
Slide the years from the 15-year minimum toward 25 and watch the interest — the green part of the bar — quietly overtake your deposits. Because the interest is tax-free, the number you see is the number you keep.
- Yearly deposit — up to ₹1.5 lakh a year, the 80C ceiling.
- Rate — set by the government every quarter; ~7.1% recently.
Illustration only. The actual PPF rate is notified quarterly by the government; deposits earn from the month they are credited.

The formula behind the numbers
Each deposit compounds from the year it lands — 15 years minimum.
Example: ₹1.5 lakh a year at 7.1% for 15 years becomes ₹40.68 lakh — ₹22.5 lakh deposited, ₹18.2 lakh of tax-free interest.
A 7.1% PPF is 7.1% in hand; a 7% FD is about 4.9% at the 30% slab. That gap, over 15 years, is lakhs.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum PPF tenure?
Fifteen complete financial years, extendable in blocks of five years afterwards — with or without fresh deposits.
What is the current PPF interest rate?
The government notifies it every quarter; it has hovered around 7.1% in recent years. The calculator's default matches that — move the slider to stress-test different rates.
Is PPF maturity tax-free?
Yes — both the yearly interest and the maturity proceeds are exempt from income tax. Along with the sovereign backing, that is the scheme's core promise.
Can I deposit more than ₹1.5 lakh a year in PPF?
No — ₹1.5 lakh is the yearly ceiling across all your PPF accounts combined, and it is also the 80C limit. Excess deposits earn nothing and are returned.
